Introduction
Hi, I’m Chris, founder of The Christopire Flashcards. When I sat my Junior Cert, I managed to get 10 distinctions—not by cramming or spending every waking moment in my room studying, but by working smarter. And the secret? Active recall and flashcards.
The very same flashcards you’ll find on The Christopire. These aren’t just any flashcards, they’re optimized to help you retain information, track your progress, and ace your exams. I used this method myself, and I’m confident it can work for you too. Here’s how.
Active Recall: The Secret to Studying Smarter, Not Harder
If there’s one thing you need to understand about studying, it’s that active recall is king. Forget passive reading or highlighting, those methods don’t stick. Active recall forces your brain to retrieve information, which strengthens memory and helps you retain material for the long term.
Flashcards and blurting are the ultimate active recall tools:
- Long-Term Retention: Each time you actively recall information, you’re rewiring your brain to remember it.
- Progress Tracking: Flashcards show you exactly what you know and, more importantly, what you don’t.
- Focus on Weak Spots: You can zero in on the material you’ve forgotten, saving time and effort.
But here’s the thing, not all flashcards are created equal. The Christopire Flashcards are different. They’re compiled based off of JC learning outcomes, past exam papers and distinction-level answers. Every flashcard mimics exam questions, with long and verbose answers, You’re not just memorizing—you’re preparing to excel. In addition, the app’s unique features, like text-input answers and auto-highlighting, take your study sessions to new levels.
Fundamentals of The Christopire Flashcards
Using The Christopire isn’t just about flipping cards. Using the correct system makes studying straightforward and effective. This method is what I have named the peek, type, check, reset method, or PTCR. Follow these steps for maximum results:
- Peek at the Flashcard
Using our ‘peek’ feature, start by reading the flashcard. Understand the answer, and try to remember its details. - Type Out Your Answer
In the text field provided, type out as much of the answer you can remember. - Check Your Answer
Once you’ve submitted your answer, our app will show you what you got right. Words that match will be highlighted in green, while the gaps in your knowledge will be obvious. - Reset and Retry
Read the parts you got wrong. Reset the card, and this time focus on typing out the full, correct answer. If you want to save time, you can type out only the information you forgot. - Refine Your Memory
Submit the answer, and see if there is any material you have still forgotten. If so, repeat step 4. - Move On
Once you’re confident you’ve nailed it, move to the next card.
The end goal of this method is that you won’t have to ‘peek’ at the flashcard the next time you revise it, as you would have all the info stored in your head. It usually took me one or two repetitions of the PTCR method to have fully remembered the material of a flashcard.
The process is simple but highly effective. It’s all about reinforcing what you’ve learned and addressing your weak spots in real time.

The Importance of Spaced Repetition
Learning isn’t a one-and-done process. To really cement what you’ve studied, you need to revise at spaced intervals. This technique, known as spaced repetition, is proven to boost retention and prevent forgetting.
Here’s how to incorporate revision into your routine:
- Go through the same flashcards after a day, then a few days later, then a week.
- Follow the same process: peek, type, check, revise.
This ensures the material stays fresh in your mind and builds long-term memory, which is crucial for exams.
